REGIONAL TRAINING ON HUMAN RIGHTS CAMPAIGN FOR YOUTH NETWORK REPRESENTATIVES

Representatives of Youth Networks of AI Nepal empowered with the campaigning techniques by providing opportunity for them to participate in the 2 day workshops. Altogether 3 such regional workshops held in Itahari, Bhairahawa and Banepa in June 2009.

In the workshops, theoretical as well as practical sessions on how take campaigning action. They also empowered on how to send online letter signing them from the webpage of Amnesty International. Similarly, following theoretical presentations on techniques of preparing a model letter responding human rights violations or abuses, participants practically exercised to prepare model of such letters.

Representatives of 9 Youth Networks working in the Eastern Region participated in the training workshop held in Itahari while representatives of 8 Youth Networks from Western and Mid-western Region attended another workshop which was held in Bhairahawa. Similar workshop was organized in Banepa where representatives of 6 out of 8 Youth Networks located in Kathmandu Valley and Kabhrepalanchowk District joined.

ITAHARI

AI Nepal organized a training workshop on Campaign on Human Rights in Itahari on 5-6 June 2009 in which representatives of 9 AI Nepal Youth Networks - one from Panchthar, three from Jhapa, four from Sunsari and one from Morang – took part.
Director of AI Nepal Rameshwar Nepal and former Deputy General Secretary Raj Narayan Mandal conducted different sessions. On the occasion, practical sessions were conducted in which participants were provided techniques on how to prepare a letter corresponding issues of human rights violation and abuses. In the program, member of the Youth Network National Working Group Madan Krishna Mandal shared his experiances among the participants.
Altogether 28 representatives from 9 different Youth Networks participated in the workshop. The program was hosted by AI Nepal's Group 63, Itahari.

BHAIRAHAWA

The second workshop on Campaign on Human Rights for the representatives of the 8 Youth Networks located in Western and Mid-Western Region held in Bhairahawa on 13-14 June 2009.
In the program hosted by AI Nepal, Bhairahawa Group-81, Bhairahawa, Deputy General Secretary of AI Nepal, Uttam Sapkota and Director Rameshwar Nepal conducted various sessions. Devendra Sejuwal, member of the Youth Network National Working Group, shared his experiances among the participants. All together 32 youth representatives of AI Nepal's Youth Networks from Surkhet, Nepalgunj, Kohalpur, Pokhara, Baglung, Butwal and Bhairahawa participated in the workshop.
Participants also took part in a Myanma Action in which they signed postcards calling autorities to end crime against humanity there. Amnesty International's Asia Pacific Youth Project has launched a postcard action on Myanmar recently to put a pressure to the authorities calling to end torture, extra judicial killing and other types of crime against humanity against the citizen of Myanmar.

BANEPA

The third workshop was held in Banepa on 17-18 June 2009 in which representatives of 6 out of 8 Youth Networks of AI Nepal located in Kathmandu Valley and Kabhrepalanchowk District took part.
Vice-chairperson Keshab Sigdel and Director of AI Nepal Rameshwar Nepal conducted different sessions. On the occasion, practical sessions were conducted in which participants were provided techniques on how to prepare a letter corresponding issues of human rights violation and abuses. In the program, Coordinator of the Youth Network National Working Group Suman Dhun Shrestha shared his experiances among the participants.

Altogether 22 representatives from 6 different Youth Networks participated in the workshop. The program was hosted by AI Nepal's Group 43, Banepa.

Participants also took part in a Myanmar Action in which they signed postcards calling authorities to end crime against humanity there.

Likewise, all the participants took part in a signature campaign on Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) in Banepa. The United Nations is now preparing an ATT to control conventional arms. Amnesty International and partner organization of a campaign called "Control Arms" have launched an action in which AI's activist will collect signatures on a petition that written to governments calling them to contribute positively in the ATT so that the ATT could become an effective instrument to control small arms. Participants of the regional workshop in support of activists of AI Nepal's Group-43, Banepa collected signatures of hundreds of citizen in a petition which has called Nepal government to participate actively in the ATT making process. In the evening of 17 June a candle rally was organize which marched around the city center with banners.

BIRGUNJ

The fourth workshop on Campaign on Human Rights for the representatives of the 6 Youth Networks located in Central Region and Lamjung held in Birgunj 3-4 July 2009.

In the program hosted by AI Nepal, Group-16, Birgunj, National Executive Committee Member of AI Nepal Rajan Kuikel and Director Rameshwar Nepal conducted various sessions. Elina Adhikari, Member of the Youth Network National Working Group, shared her experiances among the participants.
