Human Rights Training for PoliceA human rights training for personnel organized in Birgunj on 1-2 December 2008. The main objective of the program were to aware police personnel about human rights, national and international instrument that formulated to protect human rights of the people, code of conduct for law enforcing agencies and role of police among others. Various sessions including on Universal Declaration of Human Rights, international human rights and humanitarian laws, prisoners and their treatment, practice of torture and law related to it, laws on use of force were discussed during the workshop. The sessions were conducted by AI Nepal's facilitators Geeta Neupane, Rameshwar Nepal and Kamal Mohan Pokharel as well as inspector of Nepal Police Kedar Pant. Different methods including lecture, role-play and group discussion were applied in the workshop in which Altogether 25 police personnel including 10 women police participated in the training workshop which was hosted by AI Nepal's Group 16, Birgunj.
Earlier, on 1 December an inaugural session was held. Speaking at the session, Chief Guest of the program and the Chief District Officer of Parsa District Shankar Koirala, Superintendent of Police Subodh Ghimire, National Executive Committee Member of AI Nepal Geeta Neupane, Chairperson of Parsa District Committee of Nepal Bar Association Sudhir Karna, Chairperson of Parsa District Committee of Federation of Nepalese Journalist Shatrughna Nepal, Chairperson of Parsa District Committee of Human Rights Organization of Nepal (HURON) Bijaya Upadhyaya and Vic-convener of AI Nepal's Group-16 Kanhaiyalal Keshari shed lights in the different aspects of ongoing human rights situation of the country. In the inaugural session Director of AI Nepal Rameshwar Nepal highlighted the objective of the training for police and role of social organs to get human rights situation improved.
