Arbitrary Arrests, Torture, and Coerced Confessions of Tharu Community Members in Kailali

Amnesty International documents how police subjected members of the Indigenous Tharu community in Kailali district in Nepal’s Far-Western Tarai in the southern plains part of the country, to arbitrary arrests, torture and other ill-treatment, and coerced some of them into signing “confessions” in connection with the killings of eight security personnel and a child in Tikapur, Dhangadhi on 24 August 2015.
